DOUGLAS FIR
DOUGLAS FIR POSTS
These clear Douglas fir posts with a head size of approx. 10×10 cm are mainly used as fencing posts, to make a pergola or to attach garden gates. Is this pole going into the ground? Don’t forget the post saver! These Douglas posts are finely sawn, giving them a rough surface.
- Fine sawn, rough
- Head size: approx. 10×10 cm
Douglas posts 10×10 cm are often used as fence posts to attach garden screens, planks or rebate parts. In addition, a light wooden construction can also be made from 10×10 posts. To make wooden constructions of, for example, verandas, roofs or sheds, we recommend using posts with a larger head size.
Douglas wood has a naturally pink/yellow color and ages beautifully. The beautiful ‘flame’ in the wood is also preserved during and after aging.
The posts are finely sawn, which provides a rough structure that fully enhances the robust appearance of the Douglas fir.
Our rough Douglas fir posts are freshly sawn, which means there is a chance of moisture and resin escaping and the wood functioning in the first months.
The special thing about our douglas wood is that it is sawn 4-ex logs.

Wood is a natural product and each type of wood has certain properties. These are often wrongly seen as lower quality. At TimberIreland we think it is important to inform you about this in advance. That is why we explain the most important properties here. The full description can be found in the product card at the bottom of the text.
Warping
Like hardwood, oak is a hard wood. This is advantageous for durability, but has the disadvantage that it warps quickly. Our advice is to install the wood as soon as possible after delivery. Once attached with firm screws, it is less likely to warp.
Rip
Oak wood ‘works’ due to weather conditions: in the summer the wood shrinks due to heat and due to moisture it expands in the autumn. With oak this causes enormous cracking, which is a characteristic property of the wood. This cracking has no influence on the quality and constructive properties of the wood.
Black smudges and spots
Tannic acids in hardwood react to contact with steel. During transport, the wood can come into contact with the steel forks of the forklift, causing black spots. These disappear automatically after installation due to weather influences, but can also be removed with weathering water.
