Willow Fence Panel
Willow is the most distinctive informal fencing material on the market — a fast-growing, sustainably coppiced timber with the relaxed character that suits country gardens and rural settings perfectly. It’s traditionally used for woven hurdles, garden screens, and informal fencing — lightweight, characterful, and quickly replenished from coppiced sources. Boards arrive in a pale cream that weathers to soft silver-grey if left untreated. Sourced from sustainably coppiced sources and stocked in our yard for delivery across Ireland.
Why Willow?
Willow earns its place through character and sustainability rather than through density. With a density of around 420 kg/m³, it’s light enough to work easily by hand and gives finished installations a naturally informal character. Coppiced willow is one of the most sustainable timber sources available — fast-growing, quickly replenished, and minimal in its environmental impact. It’s the natural choice for projects where character outweighs ultimate longevity: garden screens, decorative fencing, and informal boundaries where the relaxed, organic appearance is the design feature.
Installation guidance
Willow is the easiest informal fencing material to handle. Use stainless-steel fixings outdoors and pre-drill near board ends. The natural variation between pieces is part of the timber’s character.
Finishing & maintenance
Willow performs best with a protective treatment — apply a preservative or stain within the first few months of installation and refresh every two or three years. We stock the products that pair correctly with willow — ask us if you’re unsure which to specify. Untreated willow weathers to grey and gives a more rustic appearance, with a shorter overall lifespan; treated willow holds its character longer.
