Walnut is the European hardwood specified for fine joinery, furniture, and feature work where a deep, sophisticated tone is the entire point. Sourced from sustainably managed European forests and stocked in our yard for delivery across Ireland.
Why Walnut?
Walnut earns its place by being one of the most visually striking hardwoods we stock. With a density of around 640 kg/m³, it’s stable, easy to work with hand and machine tools, and finishes to a depth that few other species achieve. The rich chocolate-brown tones and distinctive grain figure give finished work a presence that’s unmistakable — which is why Walnut has been the species of choice for premium furniture and architectural detailing for centuries.
Installation guidance
Walnut is best suited to interior or sheltered exterior use. Pre-drill near board ends to prevent splitting and use stainless-steel fixings outdoors.
Finishing & maintenance
Walnut takes oil and wax beautifully — we stock the products that pair correctly with European hardwoods (ask us if you’re unsure which to use). Apply within the first weeks of installation and refresh as the surface tells you it’s needed.
